The Pololu 9V Step-up/Step-Down Voltage Regulator S18V20F9 is a versatile switching regulator designed to maintain a stable 9V output from a wide range of input voltages, spanning from 3V to 30V. Utilizing a single-ended primary-inductor converter (SEPIC) topology, this regulator efficiently adjusts the input voltage to the desired output, achieving typical efficiencies between 80% and 90%. It is particularly suitable for battery-powered applications where the input voltage may fluctuate above or below the target output voltage as the battery discharges.

This regulator is equipped with several protective features, including reverse-voltage protection, over-current protection, thermal shutdown, and an under-voltage lockout that activates when the input voltage falls below 2.5V.
